(ECNS) -- What are the major development achievements China has made during the 14th Five-Year Plan period? How will the 15th Five-Year Plan chart the course for the next five years? And how will China navigate the complex and ever-changing international landscape?
Recently, Jose Renato Peneluppi Jr., a Brazilian scholar specializing in energy transition and director of Brazilian Citizens Council in Beijing, posed these questions in the latest episode of China Answers.
In response, Jiang Ruiping, professor and Ph.D. supervisor in China Foreign Affairs University (CFAU), outlined China's economic resilience with several key points.
China's GDP successively surpassed the thresholds of 110 trillion yuan, 120 trillion yuan and 130 trillion yuan during the 14th Five-Year Plan, and is projected to reach around 140 trillion yuan in 2025. From 2021 to 2024, China's average economic growth rate reached 5.5%. China's contribution to world economic growth has stayed at around 30 percent.
"The 14th Five-Year Plan period was the first five-year period following China's realization of building a moderately prosperous society in all respects, representing a crucial phase for advancing toward the Second Centenary Goal," said Professor Jiang, also former vice president of CFAU.
This period holds paramount significance and witnessed remarkable achievements in China's economic and social development, added the professor.
How has China's economy maintained long-term stable growth? Jiang pointed out that facing an international situation rife with uncertainty, China has adopted multiple robust measures that have scaled up and enhanced quality, continuously injecting momentum into the steady progress of the Chinese economy.
In Jiang's view, key measures include: first, accelerating the establishment of a new pattern of development, positioning the expansion of domestic demand as the main engine to drive sustained and stable economic growth; second, prioritizing high-quality development as the primary task in fully building a modern socialist country; third, accelerating the development of new quality productive forces; and fourth, leveraging further comprehensive deepening of reform as the fundamental driving force for advancing Chinese modernization.
With the 14th Five-Year Plan period nearing conclusion and the 15th Five-Year Plan period about to begin, Jiang expressed his confidence that China will "carry through a blueprint to the end," which will lay a more solid foundation for accelerating high-quality development in the future.
Jiang further stated that China will adhere to upholding the Party's overall leadership, putting the people first; pursuing high-quality development, comprehensively deepening reform, promoting interplay between an efficient market and a well-functioning government, and ensuring both development and security.
These guiding principles will chart the course for the comprehensive formulation and rapid advancement of the 15th Five-Year Plan, said Jiang.
He also noted the accelerating transformations unseen in a century and the rising tide of unilateralism and protectionism globally.
In this context, he stated his belief that China will continue to "focus on handling its own affairs well," accelerate the building of a new development pattern, and unswervingly strengthen the domestic circulation.
Simultaneously, China will expand independent and unilateral opening up in an orderly manner, promote regional economic cooperation, and advance the implementation of the Global Initiatives, added the professor.
With a more open posture, China will inject more stability into the global economy in the future, stated Jiang.
